2010 Superstar/Microsoft Zune Shootout

Here is a list of the top players that we saw in Fresno this past weekend at the Superstar Shootout.

6’4 Kyi Thomas (ICP Nike Select 2012) – Big time athlete with a great looking body. Nice range on his jump shot and is really good in the open court. Once his skill level catches up with his physical abilities, watch out. Needs to work on his ball handling and passing but at this point is still a mid to high major prospect. Being contacted by USC, San Jose St, Cal, Fresno State, Portland and Washington State amongst others.

5’9 Sam Marcus – (Bakersfield United 2010) Unsigned senior pg worth a look for schools looking for a floor general. Does a great job of running a team and makes great decision with the ball. Doesn’t have a great 3 point shot but his mid range is solid. Almost impossible to press and has several gears to get by defenders. Would fit in nice at a DII or NAIA school still looking for a pg.

Quincy Smith (TS/Microsoft Zune 2011) Very athletic pg who gets to the paint with the ability to finish using his athletic ability and body control. Nice looking prospect who projects as a low to mid major player at the next level. Excellent student who is being contacted Portland, UC Riverside, USF, Cleveland State and several Ivy League schools.

Marquis Wilson (B3 Elite 2010) Really good athlete who excels in the open court. He was virtually unstoppable on fast breaks. Doesn’t shoot the ball that well but caused problems for teams driving to the basket and on the offensive boards. Has committed to Washington State for football. Could possibly play basketball at the next level if he persued it.

6’2 Roderick Bobbitt – (TS Microsoft Zune 2011) New to the AAU scene as this is the first year he’s ever played on the circuit. Big pg with above average athleticism. At his best when driving to the basket. Nice vision as he did a great job of getting his teammates open shots and easy buckets. Can shoot it out to the stripe but release is a little slow. Looks to be a mid major prospect. He is hearing from WCC and WAC schools.

6’4 Sterling Smith – (ICP Nike Select 2011) Very active combo guard who causes problems with his size at the guard spot. Did a good job of getting his teammates involved while running the point. At his best when he is attacking the rim. Also showed that he can knock down the mid range jump shot. He is hearing from Cal, USF, Boise St, San Jose State and Northern Colorado. Also has scored 1400 on his SAT.

6’4 Daran Johnson – (ICP Nike Select 2013) One of the better looking prospects at this event. Has great size and maturity for his grade at the guard position. Very good ball skill and court vision. Also can score the ball from the perimiter . Very good looking prospect who is hearing from Texas, Notre Dame, Texas, UCLA, Washington, Memphis, Kansas and Arizona amongst others. Definitely one to track.

6’5 Chris Jones – (Bakersfield United 2011) Big physical specimen that plays bigger than his size. Has good shot blocking abilities and is a very good athlete. No a great scorer but has nice hands and finishes well in the paint. Needs to develop some more perimeter skills. Could possibly be a 3 at the next level. Look forward to keeping an eye on him.

6’3 Nehru Henderson (Bakersfield United 2011) Big strong rebounder who competes hard. Has nice hands as he finished with both hands around rim with soft touch. Can shoot it out to 15 feet. With development, he could be a low DI prospect.

6’2 Rashad Jackson – (Team Superstar 2014) One of the most impressive prospects at the event, as an 8th grader. Has a nice long frame and great feel for the game already. Scored the ball from everywhere on the court hitting long jumpers, mid range pull-ups and attacking the rim. He really gets after it on both ends of the floor and is a bully on the court. One of the best players on one of the best 15/u teams in the state. With continued development, should be an elite high major prospect.

6’4 Jacob Martin - (Team Superstar 2013) Big time scorer in the mold of a young Dirk Nowitki. Face up 4 man who hit fade away jumpers from 15 feet and 3’s off the high pick and pops out to 23 feet with consistency. Very impressive range for a 9th grader. Also is an excellent passer out of the post. Rugged rebounder who plays with an attitude but needs to get his body stronger. Mid major prospect at this point. .

6’5 Keontae Vernon - (CV Aztecs 2013) Very athletic 4 man who dominated the paint in every game. Did everything from block shots, score on the block and hit mid range jump shots. Also does a nice job of running the floor and finishing strong. Needs to play with more consistency as he doesn’t play hard all the time. Could end up being a very good wing if he develops his perimeter skills. Very nice looking prospect, who projects to be a solid mid major player at this point.

6’0 Kendall Smith – (Team Superstar 2013) Can play the point or the two. Did a nice job getting his teammates involved. Very crafty as he seemed to get to the rim whenever he wanted to. Can also score in bunches with a nice mid-range game. Could use some muscle on his frame and a little quicker release. Solid mid major prospect.

5’10 Chris Russell – (Running Knights 2013) Very promising young pg. Did an excellent job of handling the ball against the press. Very good decision maker who knows when to score and when to pass. Very impressed with his poise and leadership. Could develop into a solid DI pg someday.

5’10 Blake Shannon (CV Aztecs 2014) Shot the ball well all tournament. For an 8th grader, he did a good job of handling the ball under pressure. Not the quickest player on the court but is savvy enough to get it done. Needs to get develop his left hand a little more but is a quality player in the making.

6’3 D’Erryl Williams – (Team Superstar 2013) Nobody competes harder than him when he’s on the court. Absolute beast of a rebounder with a very high motor! Lefty wing who gets to the rim and finishes with power. Lockdown defender who gets his hands on balls. Needs to improve his jump shot. Mid major prospect at this point.

6’5 Zachary Allmon (Bakersfield United 2012) Nice looking prospect who did a good job of being active in the paint. Pretty good shot blocker with nice athleticism. Doesn’t have a lot of strength yet but doesn’t back down from the physicality in the paint. One to keep an eye on.

6’3 Corey Silverstrom – (Running Knights 2013) Scrappy post player who is relentless on the boards. Does a good job finishing around the rim. Also has nice touch from the outside. Love the way he competes on both ends of the floor. Ultimate glue guy who has a brigh future ahead of him.

6’0 LJ Moore – (Team Superstar 2013) Very athletic guard who showed he can get to the rim at will. Has more of a set shot instead of a pure jumper but knocked 3’s down with consistency. Very good ball handler with an explosive first step. One of the better young players here at this event. Should start to cath the eye of many college coaches.
